Skill 6 - Patience

The sixth skill is patience, or is it a virtue! Some people seem to want virtually daily changes and then think that they can track the web page ranking results the next day. Unfortunately, it can take a week for absolutely correct changes to take effect, in which time you have made six other changes

Add to this the reticence of to allow new sites straight on to its listings by adding some waiting factor of, maybe, three months for new sites, and you have a totally uncontrollable situation. We say to all our clients that a piece of SEO work should be looked at like your marketing campaign that runs for six months, since it is only after that time elapses that a true judgment of the effectiveness of all the work can be made.

We normally find that new pages that we host for our customers, take about two months to appear on MSN. That is always heartening as Yahoo and will generally follow a month later. These first search results will be found using a lot of the major key words in a phrase that may not be very useful. However, as the page establishes itself, the search results on shorter more meaningful phrases also begin to appear.

So our advice is to be patient and don't be rushed into lots of quick changes to your site. True SEO work takes time, long term results are gained by having a long term strategy.
