The fourth skill is marketing, after all that is what we, in SEO Services are doing - marketing your site and hence company and products/services on the Web. Main key here is to set the site up to be accessible to the searches that will provide most business to you.I have seen many sites that can be found as you key in the company name. Others that can be found by keying in "Accountant Blagthorpe North-West England", which is great, except no-one ever actually does that search. So the marketing skill requires knowledge of a company's business, what they are really trying to sell plus an understanding of what actual searches may provide dividends.
One of the best ways to work out what key words and phrases are best for your business is to use a key word checker like Overture or Wordtracker. In the tools section, we have provided a tool that combines both of these and shows what key words and phrases people are actually using. Sometimes the results are quite surprising and people actually search with phrases you wouldn't consider.
Marketing also covers areas like pay-per-click (PPC) advertising and Adwords, focused on the whole area of PPC marketing and maximising the cost-per-click. We believe that a front page listing on the results of a valid search is far more cost-effective than PPC. As such we have no real expertise in this area and so will not cover this here.
