Validating your HTML Code
We have found that some search engines, especially Google, like very clean well-validated code. Without the cleanest possible code, the spiderbots just stop calling. In the past, we have made small changes and seen our web pages drop off Google. On investigation, we see that we have made a slight error, for instance an incorrectly defined colour, and this has been enough to kill the indexing. That is especially important for new sites trying to get the search engines to take them seriously.Initially we used the standard W3C mark-up validation service, that can be found at http://validator.w3.org. If you can't afford to pay for a validator, that is a good first option.
